Minnie was born in Poland but arrived in Canada at the age of 7. She was 18 when she married Thomas William Smith. She was always extremely devout. The family moved to Duncan, British Columbia in 1920 where they lived a simple life of subsistence farming surrounded by the family of 8 children. In spite of her busy schedule, Minnie still managed to find time to play a very active role with the local Vimy Women's Institue from the mid 1920's until the 1950's. Mainstays of the group were garden talks and charities but a sewing circle was also involved. Sewing was Minnie's passion, a skill she had learned from her seamstress mother. Minnie lived the last days of her life in her small house on the Bergman property in Duncan. She is buried in the Mountain View Cemetery, Duncan.
